MC-Channels is the short form for a further group of channel sections.
They are produced with parallel flanges with tolerances according to ASTM A 484, the laser fused execution has additionally the product standard defined by ASTM A1069.
In contrast to the C-Channels series, flanges and webs have always the same material thickness.
Although lower static values – with equal profile height – are achieved than with the C-Channels, the MC-channels channels are seen as a low-cost alternative for a broad variety of applications as the specific weight per meter is low.
In addition channels with parallel flanges are much easier to assemble as no conical flat washer have to be used to compensate the natural conicity of the C-Channel’s flanges.
The following austenitic grades are predominantly used for stainless steel structurals: 304, 304L, 316, 316L, they are defined by ASTM A276, ASTM A479 and ASME SA479.
