What is the difference between UPA and UPN channels?
UPA (UAP) channels have parallel inner faces on the flanges, while UPN (UNP) channels have a flange taper of approximately 8%. This means UPA channels can be bolted directly without tapered washers, simplifying connection details. The parallel flange also provides a better bearing surface for welded attachments.
Are UPA channels available in stainless steel as standard stock items?
Montanstahl maintains stock in the most common sizes and grades. For less common dimensions or specialty alloys, profiles are typically manufactured to order with relatively short lead times thanks to the laser welding production process.

This process joins a web plate to two flange plates using a precision laser beam, resulting in a narrow heat-affected zone, minimal distortion, and an accurate section geometry. Yes, particularly when specified in grade 1.4404 (316L) or duplex alloys such as 1.4462.
