Available in S690 steel grades, also known as FineXcell® 690, Dillmax 690 or Weldox 700, and other equivalents with very high yield and tensile strength values, together with high impact properties at low temperatures.
Suitable for applications where it’s vital to reduce the weight of the structure without giving up its resistance, even if subject to extreme loads (ex.: construction, cranes and lifting equipment,…)

Traditional manufacturing options for hollow sections in high strength steels
Fine grain high-strength steel square and rectangular hollow sections have historically been available via these manufacturing methods:
HOT FINISHED SEAMLESS TUBES
According to EN 10210
These hollow sections are manufactured through hot forming process, using round seamless tubes as base material.
HOT FINISHED WELDED TUBES
According to EN 10210
These hollow sections are manufactured through cold/hot forming, followed by heat treatment, and welding.
COLD FINISHED WELDED TUBES
According to EN 10219
These hollow sections are manufactured through coid forming and welding, without any further heat treatment.
New possibilities with Montanstahl
Thanks to continuous research and development in the field of laser welding, today there is the possibility to manufacture high strength square and rectangular hollow sections as a 4 sides laser welded product.
Laser welded high strength tubes have product properties that are similar to hot finished hollow sections. Unlike cold-finished hollow profiles, laser-welded hollow profiles offer unlimited weldability right down to the sharp edge radii.
The totally flat connection surfaces that result from the small edge radii (less than Ra < 1mm), typical of laser-welded square and rectangular hollow sections, are therefore excellently suited to be jointed.
Different quality tests, such as welding procedures and tests, can be carried out on the profiles upon request.
