Every manufacturing process reaches its physical and technical limits at some point. In spite of this, it is often worthwhile to think beyond these limits.
This is especially true when, through the intelligent interaction of two different manufacturing processes, it becomes possible to expand the dimensions and achive a higher degree of complexity while simultaneously using different types of steel.
Advantages of composite profiles:
Compared to extruded and hot rolled profiles, the composite profiles offers new possibilities, including:
- High design flexibility
- Material mix
- Increased profile dimensions
- Open and hollow sections
With composite profiles it is possible to increase the overall profile dimensions and to create complexer geometries. Furthermore different steel alloys, such as carbon steel, high yield grades, stainless steel (from ferritic to high austenitic or duplex stainless steels) can be combined.
Here is an example:
Let us assume a customer needs a stainless steel profile according to the first drawing on the left (image 1). Manufacturing the product via hot extrusion would not be possible because of dimensional restrictions of the machine (image 2). Instead, it is possible to produce single components via hot extrusion and laser welding and to combine them with laser welding technology (image 3). This provides the requested solution.
