For applications in maritime environments or in promiity to seas and oceans, materials that are corrosion resistant are often a pre-requisite. This is because the presence of salt, whether it’s through direct contact in the water or indirectly carried through winds, causes common carbon steel profiles to rust and thus requires frequent maintencance and costly replacements. Stainless steel profiles have very high corrosion resistance and are therefore the preferred choice. When especially high strengths and load-bearing properties are required, sections in duplex stainless steel are best suited.
