Hot Extruded Finned Tubes for Power Stations and Industrial Plants
Steel tubes in power stations and industrial plants carry extreme temperatures and pressures for decades. They run through furnaces, steam boilers, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and hot gas distributors, and the consequences of failure make quality requirements uncompromising. The preferred material for these applications is alloyed steel 16Mo3 (1.5415), though P235GH (1.0345) and P265GH (1.0425) are also used. Given the critical nature of the application, specialized testing and certification such as EN 10216-2 PK1 water pressure tests and EN 10204-3.2 or third-party TÜV acceptance are often required.

Product Range: Fin Tubes, Omega Tubes and Composite Tubes
Montanstahl’s German operation in Schwerte produces a dedicated range of hot extruded tubes for these applications: fin tubes, omega tubes, double omega tubes, and composite tubes combining carbon and austenitic material in a single section. Seamless hollow profiles are available with an inside chamber diameter from 20 mm up to 165 mm. The design of each tube can be adapted to the specific application, and production quantities are flexible, down to a single bar if needed.
Seamless Hollow Sections for High Resistance Applications
Hot extrusion is the production route that makes these sections possible. It is the only technology able to produce seamless hollow profiles in alloyed or stainless steel, with the profile geometry adapted to each application. Because it runs from a single billet without any seam, the finished tube has a uniform structure through the full cross-section. The process is also versatile for volume: relatively small batches are viable at low cost, making it practical for spares or staged projects. The resulting tubes are well suited to applications demanding high resistance to oxidation, corrosion, and abrasion.

Application Context
This case sits in Montanstahl’s energy and power generation segment, where hot extruded special tubes are specified for the most demanding thermal and pressure environments. Power station components like fin tubes and omega tubes have to meet strict certifications and hold their integrity for decades of continuous operation. Profiles of this kind are produced to the customer’s specification and supplied worldwide for power stations, refineries, and industrial plants.
