Custom Laser Welded Stainless Steel 316L Profiles for a Luxury Veranda in Tuscany
A private villa owner in Tuscany wanted an elegant, modern sun-shading canopy for the veranda, something that would hold up outdoors and still look striking. The architect specified polished stainless steel 316L: durable enough for the exposed setting and refined enough to carry the design. The brief called for three custom sections built to the client’s own drawings, with a clean polished finish and crisp, sharp corners, all delivered inside a fixed budget and a tight schedule.
Polished, Sharp-Cornered Sections on a Tight Schedule
The project asked for three special sections drawn to the client’s own design, produced in custom lengths of 2.1, 2.3, 2.6, 4.1 and 6 metres. The surfaces had to reach a polished finish with a roughness of no more than Ra 0.5 μm, and the profiles needed genuinely sharp corners rather than the rounded edges of standard sections. On top of that, the full order of three tonnes had to be completed within eight weeks and a fixed budget of EUR 30,000. Meeting the geometry, the surface quality, and the lead time at the same time was the real test.
Laser Welded 316L Sections with a Polished Finish
The sections were produced with laser welding, which made it possible to build the exact geometry the design called for, including the sharp corners. Laser welded profiles start from a clean, homogeneous surface, so bringing them up to the required polished finish takes a reasonable amount of time and cost. The final delivery was a collection of 30 bars in stainless steel 316L, securely packed and shipped to Italy for on-site assembly within the agreed schedule and budget.
